About the Barber Tract
Neighborhood Association (BTNA)

Founded in 1989 and recently incorporated as a California nonprofit corporation, the Barber Tract Neighborhood Association (BTNA) is dedicated to fostering community spirit, friendship, and engagement among residents of the Barber Tract neighborhood in La Jolla.
Our mission is to strengthen neighborhood connections through year-round events and social gatherings — from our beloved, and classic, Fourth of July Block Party to our annual Oktoberfest celebration. These events are organized and sponsored by BTNA for all the members of the Barber Tract neighborhood community to enjoy. BTNA is run entirely by a volunteer Board of Directors and funded solely by membership dues. We continuously seek feedback from our members to maintain and improve the unique character and livability of the Barber Tract.

The Barber Tract neighborhood is currently defined as the residential area in La Jolla, extending east from the Pacific Ocean to the west side of La Jolla Boulevard, and south from Pearl Street to the south side of Westbourne Street. While properties such as White Sands La Jolla, the League House, and the Darlington House are not formally included within our existing area,
their residents remain valued friends and neighbors of the
Barber Tract Neighborhood Association.
OVER 100 YEARS OLD
Over a century ago, the Barber Tract began to take shape as one of La Jolla’s earliest and most distinctive neighborhoods. Its roots trace back to the early 1900s, when the area was developed with the vision of creating a community that blended architectural charm, coastal beauty, and a sense of close-knit neighborhood living.
Today, more than 100 years later, the Barber Tract stands as a living testament to
thoughtful neighborhood design and enduring community spirit. The stories that have been passed along remind us that its charm lies not only in its historic homes and proximity to the ocean, but also in the generations of residents who have nurtured and safeguarded its legacy.
Two unique papers published over the years offer valuable insights into this
transformation and the Barber Tract’s historical significance.
